Ote-ote (Indonesian Fritter)

Morning brothers and sisters. I hope you all are fine. hmmm, It has been a long time no write. Well, Today i would like to tell you how to make ote-ote. For you coming from east java, this word is already familiar to you, isnt it? For east Javanese ote ote can be mean anyone whose upper body is no cloth at all. When the weather is so hot, people would love to get out their cloth.

well, i m here not for talking about ote-ote in that meaning. i would like to tell you about food. Because ote-ote is also name of a dish ( in other place ote-ote is similar with bakwan) frying, gorengan. People may take it whenever they want, in the morning, afternoon or even in the evening. the shape is unique, it is convex ( it may inappropriately word for food, i don’t know how to describe it in English correctly) and it would be more delicious when you eat it combine with chili. But if don’t like spicy, you can take tomatoes sauces or a litlle sambal (chili sauce).

Well, let me tell you how to make it

Ingredients:

  • wheat flour
  • vegetable ( cabbages, bean sprouts, carrots, 2 stalks spring onion or leek etc.) chopped nicely
  • 1 egg

Seasoning :

  • 5 grains of pepper
  • 3 cloves of shallot
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 cm ginger
  • 1 table spoon salt
  • water
  • oil for deep frying

Method:

  1. grind pepper, shallot, garlic, ginger and salt ( you may use blender to make it easier)
  2. put it in a bowl and combine with chopped vegetables, wheat flour and water
  3. stir it nicely
  4. add an egg and mix it well
  5. take a ladle and oil, put them in a frying pan
  6. Heat oil
  7. take  one ladle of the dough and put it into the hot oil.
  8. when  the dough in the oil release from the ladle, you may take again one ladle of dough and put it again in hot oil.
  9. fry until golden brown
  10. repeat until the dough is finished
  11. serve in a small plate combine with chilies
